Back posting for the period August 3 to August 26, while back in New Zealand
And so started three unexpected weeks in New Zealand. The funeral was on the Thursday, and it was great that people came from all over, even as far as Australia, London, and Ireland. After that, Christchurch rained almost every day, as did Auckland for the two days I went up there to visit Neil and other friends.
It was nice to catch up with people, see what had changed and what had not, seeing friends with new kids or ones on the way, and Nick and Daisy announce their engagement. I popped in at uni and at my old workplace. I had no idea what I was going to be doing next, and looked at all sorts of options, from returning to London, working on a yacht, teaching English in Colombia or going direct to Canada. Eventually I decided that given I had a return ticket to Buenos Aires anyway, and a return to London, I may as well go back to Buenos Aires and see if I could decide once I was there, what my plans would be.
It felt strange getting on a plane not really knowing what I was going to do when I landed, but off I went, just as the sun broke through and I had clear skies over most of New Zealand. I was fortunate in that Aerolineas Argentinas was only delayed about 30 minutes, and once again I had two seats to myself – although the projector was broken, so I resorted to my laptop and a bit of attempting dozing en route.
